Station 9
Station 9 is the parent trees. The actual parent trees are behind where you would stand to see this marker. These tall, mature, locust trees are able to spread their seeds in a wider area when the wind blows. This is why they are called "parent trees". These trees are among the tallest on the playground. Many birds prefer to sing from the very tallest tree around. This makes it harder for us to see them, but allows the sound to carry much farther. Some of these trees were cut off at the stump when the tree fell down on the playground. If you look carefully, you may be able to count the growth rings on the stump. Each ring shows one year of growth.
