White Pine

This is the only example of a native evergreen tree on the path. If you look carefully at the trunk, you will see that the bark has been rubbed off in one area. It is likely that this is a "buck rub" caused by a whitetail deer buck rubbing its itchy antlers against a tree. Unfortunately, the buck chose the only white pine in the forest, and may have actually damaged the tree enough to weaken it and kill it. The forest is full of stories waiting to be told!
