Roughly 400 Mill Road Elementary students and family members attended the inaugural Wellness Fair at the school Oct. 16.

The event featured a wide variety of attractions, from physical games and challenges like sack races and a balance beam, to tables for arts and crafts and pumpkin decorating, to a dance area and tables where parents could learn more about wellness programs and initiatives. There was a one-day-old calf available to pet, as well as an emotional support dog, and students could try out the new balance bikes that recently arrived at Mill Road.

Tables lined the newly paved walkway that now connects various elements of the expansive space behind Mill Road, as did small pumpkins the children were invited to take home afterward. A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening the walkway began the festivities.

“This event showcases our commitment to the Raider Profile, especially focusing on the importance of tending to our physical, emotional and social health,” Dr. Janet Warden, superintendent of schools, said in welcoming families. “We’re also thrilled to open our brand-new trail, which perfectly aligns with our district’s mission of fostering wellness.”

To encourage families to visit the various tables, each student was issued a passport with 12 spots for stickers – four each corresponding to mind, body and social wellness. Once a student filled their passport they, and their parent, were given raffle tickets. At the end of the night various prizes were given out, including bikes.
